Athens Holidays - The Acropolis (Part I)

(Cecropia),

I went to a long-awaited destination - Athens, Greece in last year's Christmas holiday.

I live in the hotel nearby the Acropolis, so it was my first place to visit in Athens.

The Acropolis of Athens or Citadel of Athens is the best known acropolis in the world.

The Acropolis was formally proclaimed as the pre-eminent monument on the European

Cultural Heritage list of monuments on 26 March 2007.

The Acropolis is a flat-topped rock that rises 150 m (490 ft) above sea level in the city of Athens,

with a surface area of about 3 hectares. It was also known as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent-man,

Cecrops, the first Athenian king. (Information from Wekipedia)

On the top of Acropolis is the Parthenon, please enjoy the first part of the photos,

next I will slowly introduce the history of the Acropolis.

  23. Wow... It's memory flashback for me!
The weather looks good! When I was there it was so hot...
    So many people!

Did you also see their new museum which you have to pay separate ticket to get in (Not included in your Acropolis 5 tickets)? They're so clever to charge tourists extra money...

I went to their new museum to see the marbles, but it's a shame that you cannot take pictures in there.

Better come to British Museum to see the Elgin Marbles- it's free and you can take pictures.
    Even with flash!

  24. Haha, so lucky I've chosen the best time to visit Athens,
the weahter was comfortable and was empty around!

I didn't go to the Acroplis museum nearby the metro,
the bigger reason was not allow take pictures there...
British Museum sounds great! I will visit there next! ^.^
