20th of August, the weather was so clear! Besides can see the blue sky,

also had a very high visibility, is the best time to take pictures in a high building!

I went to the highest indoor observation deck in Hong Kong - Sky100!

The observation deck is in the International Commerce Centre 100th floor,

where you can get the 360 degrees Hong Kong city panoramic beautiful scenery.

Overlooking here to the Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Peninsula is really quite spectacular!

Macau has a famous beach called Hac Sa Beach. The sand there is black.

I found out that Hong Kong has a black sand beach too,
called Lung Kwu Tan and it’s located near Tuen Mun!

The sand in Lung Kwu Tan is black, and it reminds me of Macau’s Hac Sa Beach.

Most people would probably go to Butterfly Bay Beach,
so there weren’t many people at Lung Kwu Tan.

It feels very relaxing there. You can also climb to the
Lung Kwu Tan observation deck and enjoy the scenery!

Life is stressful for urban people. To have a break on the weekend in the park,
to have a breath of fresh air is very satisfying.

I came to Tuen Mun Park in Hong Kong for a walk and to take pictures.
The park is very large, and the greenness of the scenery is very comforting.

There are areas for people to sing and dance. I found it very interesting!
Many families go to the park to play and rest.

I hope that you will get a feel for the warm inviting atmosphere of leisure!

Upper Lascar Row

Under the Wing Lee Street and Ladder Street is a very characteristic street called Upper Lascar Row,

It was the biggest discorver when we went to Wing Lee Street. This street has a lots

of Chinese souvenirs and ceramics in the shops and the stalls. If you like to shooting some photos,

these colorful handicrafts can give you a very nice effect. Moreover haven' t many tourists here,

you can also see the routine life of the store owners and the old neighbors, is really worth to visit this street.

If I come here again, besides to taking pictures, must buy some interesting souvenirs!

Particularly want to say that the images qualities of Canon EOS 5D Mark II with

Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM prime lens are superb, it is indeed a big surprise!

Regardless of colors, sharpness and bokeh, both are reached the highest level, I am really very satisfied!

Many people were awared of the Wing Lee Street because of a award-winning movie "Echoes of the Rainbow".

Here is the film location, a full of 70's Hong Kong street characteristic. From the Sheung Wan Ferry Pier,

on the way of Hillier Street, walk about 15 minutes you can reach to the Wing Lee Street.

Walking on the stairs of Ladder Street to Wing Lee Street is a long rock steps,

it's a bit like the rock steps in some side streets of Macau, its make me feel very special.

Here is a Upper Lascar Row through the streets during our destination, a place to sell Chinese souvenirs,

this street is also quite distinctive, and well worth for visiting. Followed the steps to the Man Mo Temple,

and then climb the stairs will arrive to the Wing Lee Street.

This area gives me the feeling like going to the past of Hong Kong, like a large museum in the city.

So, these old  buildings of Wing Lee Street and other small streets are really worth to preserve its,

because this is the best representative of the Hong Kong past culture and memories!

A Hong Kong Peak Sunset

22 - Comments

Last Saturday the weather was very nice. I haven't seen such a blue sky in a long time,
and the cloud formations were beautiful as well. Perhaps it’s because it had rained the day before...
I certainly got a good opportunity to take pictures and a video at the Hong Kong Peak!

I saw a very beautiful sunset and I was able to capture it on video. I was very pleased with my video.
You have probably noticed that I have recently become addicted with the video function on my 5D Mark II.
I think it requires more skill than taking photo in my opinion…
I find it challenging and also very satisfying. I find it’s stimulating my creativity, so I hope you all enjoy it!

I have been to TST in Hong Kong many times already. I have taken many pictures there

because you get a good view of the impressive and iconic Hong Kong skyline.

At night, you get to see all the buildings lit up. For me, it is the most beautiful place in Hong Kong.

I always watch the Symphony of Lights at 8:00pm. Although I've watched the show many times before,

this is the first time I've videoed the show. I hope you all enjoy it!

EOS 5D Mark II

39 - Comments

EOS 5D Mark II!

The first time I used my new camera was the day after I bought it, the 31st of January 2010!
My new camera, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II!
It was a nice sunny day in Tai O and I walked around with a friend casually taking pictures
and also resting to have some bean curd dessert.

I have been more than satisfied with the performance of my Canon EOS 450D,
so I decided to upgrade to a Canon full-frame camera, the 5D Mark II.
I would say that its a large version of the 450D, but maybe it was because of the
big handle grip that gives it a comparatively more steady and solid feel to it,
and that makes it different from the 450D. The weight isn’t very much different from the 450D
but it is far more complex. I will need time to get use to its different functions.

Although I have the new 5D Mark II, I will continue to use the 450D.
I find it hard not to take the odd picture with it. I’ve used it for almost a year and a half now.
I've been to Beijing, Manila, Spain, Sabah and other places with it,
and I am more than satisfied with the photos.
So, I will continue to use it with the appropriate lenses, and I will use it as my ‘lightweight’ camera.

In Tai O, I used the Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L lens with the new 5D Mark II.
The full frame body made this lens open the rest of picture! It broadened the shot
and I was able to get a wider angle. It was opening my eyes up to the new world of a full frame camera.
I reverted to the wide-angle zoom lens that I bought with the 450D,
because it should be used with a full-frame camera.

This is my first time using the new camera and because I’m not too familiar with it,
I hope my pictures aren’t that bad! It is my hope to take better pictures
and I know the more I use my new camera, the more adept I will become at using it!

Here is my first batch of photos, using the 5D Mark II. I hope they are ok…

A Cheung Chau Sunset

27 - Comments

On Saturday the 16th of January, the weather was sunny but cool. It was perfect weather to go out
for a walk in and, to take pictures! I went to Hong Kong Central ferry pier,
for a 30-minute ferry ride, destination, Cheung Chau.

On that day the sky was a rare blue and a bit hazy, but the Kowloon and
Central scenery from the ferry, was still quite beautiful. Many of the passengers were
soaking up the views and taking lots of photos.

Cheung Chau ferry pier is always so busy! I can’t imagine how busy it must be in summer and
during the Bun Festival. I want to come to see the parade drifting along the crowded streets.
I have wanted to attend the parade for many years now, but I’ve been too scared of the huge crowds
and the usual hot temperatures…so maybe I’ll do it this year…

From the pier, to the left is a beautiful beach, and walking to the right is the harbor walkway and
Cheung Po Tsai cave. On the walkway there are many good places to see the sunset.
I remembered my first visit to Cheung Po Tsai cave. When I entered the cave, it was really dark inside
and I had fun feeling my way through. If you go to Cheung Chau,
I recommend you visit the cave but take a small flashlight.

When walking along the harbor walkway you will see many seafood restaurants and
a number of fishermen drying and preparing their seafood. There’s a rather large older woman,
she looks so funny and she’s selling her dried shrimp. She shouts out (in Cantonese of course)
something to the effect of “Buy some and it can be cheaper!” it’s really interesting!
Next time I will take a photo of her and buy some of her dried shrimp!

By 6pm, already you can see a spectacular sunset take shape! A large and bright salted egg yolk sun
has attracted lots of visitors, taking pictures. After we photographed the beautiful sunset,
we went to eat a seafood dinner (which has to be another must do on Cheung Chau!),
although this time, the price was a tad higher than last time, but the food was good and
well worth it AND it’s still cheaper than Lamma Island. Because the ferry runs through the night,
we enjoy our meal and soak in the nightlife on the island. I used the fisheyes lens to take my photos and
I’m glad I did! I’m very satisfied with the pictures I took! What do you think?

Hong Kong X'mas 09

City Legend
